Do not forget to check out EXPIRING LANDING PAGE ELITE!!
Did you ever have the need for a landing page that can only be seen by the visitor, but not by the vendor or even worse, a spying competitor? I’m sure many of you do. Proof is that there are many DMR (Double meta refresh) scripts around and they are very popular among affiliate marketers. But there are serious problems with the DMR scripts:
- sometimes the referrer is leaked anyway.
- sometimes the referrer cannot be blanked and the redirect is looping or always redirecting to the ‘fake’ page (if set up that way)
- the vendor or the CPA network is asking questions about the many blanked referrers
Another trick that is often used, is checking on the IP address or referral on the landing page, and present another page under certain circumstances. This requires a lot of extra work on the landing page and you will also need to maintain a good list of IPs. Even then, this will always be a risky solution. Also, this method of cloaking certainly does not comply with the terms of service of many, if not all, networks.
No, another safe and easy solution was needed, and that is why I came up with ‘expiring’ landing pages. Those are pages that exist for only a certain amount and then they vanish, meaning they are not available anymore and return a 404 message (or another page) when requested after their time has passed.
Take a look at this example to see what I mean : http://www.imhitchhiker.com/demo/?elpp=elp&elpf=test1&t202id=12345&t202kw=keyword
The link will take you test page, with a google search iframed, with the t202kw passed as parameter in the search. To make it easier in this example, you’ll also notice a counter at the top that will indicate how long the page will last. The default was set at 15 seconds. You can refresh the page whenever you want, but once the 15 seconds are passed, the page will be vanished and you’ll receive a ’404′ message instead.
Here’s the same example as the previous, but it will last only 5 seconds and the keyword is different : http://www.imhitchhiker.com/demo/?elpp=elp&elpf=test1&elpt=5&t202id=12345&t202kw=different
The following example will expire almost immediately, and you can click through to another page to check what kind of information is passed from the landing page to the vendor site.
http://www.imhitchhiker.com/demo/?elpp=elp&elpf=test2&elpt=3
As you can see, the referral is not empty, but it is useless because the referral URL will not exist anymore. (You can click on the link if you don’t believe me
)
No cloaking, no empty referral, no blackhat or greyhat techniques were used.
